MISSION STATEMENT

Our mission is to create a robust film market that will drive and advance the local film industry to a global audience by connecting international film buyers, film distributors/agents, producers, actors, policy makers and other industry players.

Out of Africa International Film Festival (OOAIFF) is a limited company registered in 2014 in Nairobi, Kenya. Our operations are mainly in Nairobi, Kenya supported by partners in Paris, France and Sydney, Australia. OOAIFF is run by two directors who are in-charge of Innovation, Operations and Marketing.

THE TEAM

    E. MUMBI HINGA

    DIRECTOR


    Having a passion for arts and entertainment led Mumbi to be part of the African acapella group called Pambazuka and performed in many events in Sydney, Australia until 2011. Mumbi is a film producer with some of her work including, the award winning Afro Sistahs Web Series and multi award winning feature film, Survivie or Die (Amazon Prime TV).  Past notable work includes vice president/production manager for Afro-Australia movie and music Awards (AAMMA) based in Sydney.

    ROSE WACHUKA

    DIRECTOR

    Poet, Archivist

    Rose is a Parisian multilingual archivist who is specialized in audiovisual. She's well equipped with a broad range of skills and experience to include being a 7th art critic, Translator, Interpreter, Poet, Scriptwriter, art and Photography critical reader.

    THITU MUIRURI

    DIRECTOR

    Thitu Muiruri is a Kenyan-American writer, and film director based in Boston Massachusetts. Her love for the community has always been a great inspiration to find social issues that tend to be obstacles and prevent her people from realizing their full potential as a community. her passion for visual storytelling has led her into using her professional skills and talents into creating educational, informative and entertaining films that have become great conversation starters, especially on hard topics. Some of her films include; My Perfect Gift, 15 Years Later, and _BLACK RED N GREEN.

    JOSEPH OBEL

    PROGRAM MANAGER

    Joseph a multidisciplinary artist, artivist, educator and curator. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Theatre Arts and Film from Kenyatta University, Kenya. Joseph has taught acting for theatre, directing theatre, set design, dance choreography, spoken poetry and script writing in various colleges in Nairobi. His writing experience involves writing for the XYZ show that raises awareness on human rights and governance in Kenya and Africa.

    Mikael Thiery

    Partnership and Sponsorship manager. 

    Creative producer, BAFTA Connect Member and entrepreneur, Mikaël Thiery is the co-founder of Twisted Mirror, the freemium comedy service developed in multiple platforms including Smart TVs and Metaverse. After his experience at Warner Bros France, Mikael has explored the comedy space by producing and directing sketches as well as comedy specials. For many years, Mikael was the co-managing director of the London Short Series Festival and the Dublin Web Fest. He's also directed music videos for the London based record label Undertake Records. After his first successful fundraising campaign for his comedy venture, Mikael continues his entrepreneurial journey by moving forward with his next fundraising round to scale up Twisted Mirror. Mikael is currently developing his debut feature film as producer. He is delighted to be on board of the Out of Africa International Film Festival as Partnership and Sponsorship manager.
